Penn State produces Spanish, English field guide

The Penn State Extension Tree Fruit and Pesticide Education Teams have cooperatively produced a pocket guide to tree fruit disorders, pests and beneficials.

The guide is in Spanish and English and is designed for use by orchard employees often the first individuals to detect a new occurrence of a fruit disease or insect pest. The scouting guide is full color and coded by crop and affected plant part to facilitate easy use in the field. It is pocketsize and waterproof.

Production of a limited number of copies of the guide was made possible by a PDA Specialty Crop Block Grant, and after field testing and revisions, the team hopes to publish additional copies.

If you would like to test the “Field Guide to Tree Fruit Disorders, Pests, and Beneficials,”and provide feedback to team members, contact Montserrat Fonseca Estrada.

Project leaders included: Tara Baugher, Tree Fruit Team; Kerry Richards and Héctor M. Núñez Contreras, Pesticide Education Program.

Kari Peters, Greg Krawczyk, David Biddinger and Rob Crassweller provided content and photography input, and Garo Goodrow did the design and layout of the guide.
