Mexico imposes duties on U.S. apple exports

Mexico’s Secretaria De Economia, Ildefonso Guajarda Villarreal, has released the Ministry of Economy’s preliminary determination on an anti-dumping petition filed by the Chihuahua apple growers association Unifrut against United States apple exporters, according to a press release from Northwest Fruit Exporters (NFE).

Under the preliminary determination, individually identified packers will face a tariff ranging from zero to 20.82 percent on apples exported to Mexico, with an average of 7.55 percent for most companies, effective Jan 7.

NFE is still evaluating the ruling to determine next steps, but believes these anti-dumping duties are unjustified, and is disappointed that the Mexican government chose not to terminate the investigation and dismiss the petition, according to the press release.
