Apple holdings greater than last year

According to the U.S. Apple Association, fresh apple holdings on Jan. 1 totaled 82 million bushels, a 4 percent increase from last year. Processing holdings totaled 33.6 million bushels, 7 percent more than last year. The total number of apples in storage on Jan. 1 was 115.6 million bushels, 5 percent above the January 2011 total.
