Christ Orchard to welcome Illinois Summer Horticulture Field Day

Kurt and Connie Christ, owners of Christ Orchard in Elmwood, Illinois, will welcome you to their farm June 8 for the 2017 Summer Horticultural Field Day. The field day provides the opportunity to learn about Christ Orchard’s farm operations. This 35-acre farm grows over 50 varieties of apples, many varieties of pumpkins and squash, as well as plums, cherries and other small fruits. Their farm market offers fresh cider, honey, jam, and fall decorations including mums and Indian corn. In addition, the field day will give you a chance to connect with other specialty growers in Illinois and neighboring states.

Kurt and Connie will share their knowledge about the farm business and University of Illinois Extension specialists and educators will discuss a range of topics related to specialty crops. Integrated pest management, fruit thinning, high density apples and varietal information are a few of the many topics that will be covered.

Christ Orchard has been in production for over 35 years, and Kurt and Connie have been the co-owners for nearly 30 years. As their children, Beth, Lena, Molly, Karl and Amy, grew up, the small orchard grew as well. Now the second generation has joined the business. They continue to work together to provide quality fruit and farm fresh products to their customers.

Attend the event for educational talks, great food, a chance to meet vendors, reconnect with old friends and network with new ones. This event is sponsored by the Illinois State Horticultural Society, University of Illinois and the Illinois Specialty Growers Association.

Advance registration is $27 and includes lunch. To register and for more information visit https://www.picatic.com/ilhortday2017. For more information, email Aaron Curtis Graham at [email protected], or call 217-621-7371.
