Michigan apple group negotiates processing prices

The Michigan Processing Apple Growers Marketing Committee has negotiated the following minimum processing apple prices (for apples 2.5 inches and up) with some processors for the 2016 crop:

Ida Red: $12.25/cwt.

Jonagold and Crispin: $11.50/cwt.

Hard varieties (includes Jonathan): $11.25/cwt.

Soft varieties: $10/cwt.

Gerber Products, Knouse Foods, Materne North America, Peterson Farms and Sill Farms Market all agreed with the above minimum price schedule. Burnette Foods, Indian Summer, Pinnacle Foods and Smeltzer Orchard opted out of negotiations.

The committee chose to not negotiate a minimum juice price or undersize price for the 2016 season. Aseltine Cider and Peterson Farms will purchase juice apples and determine prices at the time of sale. Gerber Products will not purchase any juice apples in 2016, according to MPAG.
