Fall freeze kills orchards

Last week, crop consultant Dennis Burks saw one Milton-Freewater area orchard come into bloom. It is a welcome sight this time of year, but it didn’t last long. As the temperatures rose, the flowers wilted. Even at just 70 degrees, Burks said, the petals crumpled as soon as he touched them. The East Oregonian
