Fresh-market Apple Holdings Down From Last Year

U.S. fresh-market apple holdings were 31.2 million bushels on May 1, reflecting a 12 percent decrease compared to May 2009 but a 5 percent increase compared to the five-year average, according to the U.S. Apple Association (USApple).

Total processing apple holdings were 14.6 million bushels, 1 percent above last year and 2 percent below the five-year average. The total number of apples in storage was 45.8 million bushels, 8 percent less than the total for last year, according to USApple.
