June 1 apple holdings down from last year

The U.S. Apple Association just released its eighth and final report on the 2015 U.S. apple crop. According to the report, fresh apple holdings on June 1, 2016, totaled 22.7 million bushels, 24 percent below the record inventories (29.8 million bushels) reported for June 1, 2015, and 4 percent below the five-year average of 23.6 million bushels.

Total processing apple holdings as of June 1, 2016, were 9.5 million bushels, 19 percent below last year and roughly equal to the five-year average for that date.

The total number of apples in storage on June 1 was 32.2 million bushels, 23 percent below last June’s record total of 41.5 million bushels, according to the association.
