MAC searches for next Apple Queen

Women with a connection to the Michigan Apple industry are encouraged to apply for the 2017 Michigan Apple Queen title. The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 14. The new queen will be crowned at the Michigan Apple Growers Luncheon at the Great Lakes Expo in Grand Rapids on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Interested candidates should email [email protected] to request an application.

The Michigan Apple Queen will represent the Michigan Apple industry for one year and must be the daughter, sister, niece or granddaughter of a Michigan Apple producer. Applicants are required to be between the ages of 17-23 by Dec. 31. Women interested in applying for this title must have extensive knowledge of the Michigan Apple industry, and must be outgoing, personable and available to make public appearances throughout the year. The Michigan Apple Queen will attend various events, parades and festivals, and will travel to several schools to educate students about apples.

The competition will consist of an essay response portion and a one-on-one personal interview. Applicants will be judged on their poise, beauty, apple knowledge, public speaking ability and essay response. The queen will receive a $5,000 scholarship and the first runner-up will receive $2,500 from the Michigan Apple Committee. The Michigan State Horticultural Society will also contribute a $1,000 scholarship to both the queen and first runner-up.
