MSU hosting SWD Summit Nov. 9

Michigan State University Extension, MSU AgBioResearch and the Cherry Marketing Institute will host the 2016 Spotted Wing Drosophila Summit on Nov. 9, at the Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center in Traverse City, Michigan, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

While participants are encouraged to attend this meeting in-person, they will also be able to tune-in to the presentations online using Zoom technology. The focus of this year’s summit is to educate researchers, educators and Michigan’s cherry industry through presentations on the status of spotted wing Drosophila (SWD) across the globe and the latest SWD research findings from key fruit-growing states. Professor and entomologist Betsy Beers will join remotely from Washington to provide an update. Kent Daane from the University of California Berkley’s Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center will discuss landscape and biological control influences on SWD. Greg Loeb from Cornell University’s Department of Entomology will share SWD research in New York. Several speakers from MSU will also delve into the many recent research findings from this season’s trials.
