Obituary: ‘Father’ of Fresno State viticulture Vincent Petrucci

Vincent Petrucci, professor emeritus of viticulture at California State University has died at the age of 91.

Petrucci taught at Fresno State University from 1948 until 1993. He helped establish the university’s viticulture and enology program.

In 1985 Dr. Petrucci founded the Fresno State Viticulture and Enology Research Center, which includes the Vincent E. Petrucci Library, and served as its director until his retirement in 1993.

Since his retirement, Petrucci published numerous papers and books detailing wine and grape growing best practices.

Fresno State will salute Vincent E. Petrucci, professor emeritus of viticulture, by posting its national and state flags at half-staff on Jan. 4, the day of his funeral service.

Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro ordered the university’s flags posted at half-staff in memory of Dr. Petrucci, who served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps at the end of World War II.
