RHYME fungicide launched for powdery mildew control in grapes

California and Arizona growers have a new fungicide for disease management in fresh, table and wine grapes. Available for the first time in 2015, RHYME fungicide offers control of powdery mildew and black rot in grapes. RHYME fungicide belongs to FRAC Group 3 and is a demethylation inhibitor fungicide with the active ingredient flutriafol. The fungicide is rainfast in two hours and can be tank-mixed with most fungicides, insecticides or foliar nutrients.

“RHYME fungicide is highly systemic with both curative and preventative disease control activities. It rapidly diffuses into the underlying tissues, moving throughout the plant faster than most other triazoles,” said David Davies, FMC Agricultural Solutions North America segment manager. “RHYME fungicide is one of several new fungicides FMC secured when it purchased Cheminova earlier this year, and it is a good fit with FMC’s current grape portfolio.”

Earlier this year, FMC launched Fracture fungicide, a new, broad spectrum, biological fungicide with an entirely novel mode of action. It is labeled for use in the United States to control powdery mildew and botrytis in grapes, strawberries and tomatoes, and brown rot blossom blight in almonds.

“Fracture and RHYME fungicides are natural partners in a grape spray program,” explains Davies. “Fracture offers a brand new mode of action and is a contact fungicide, whereas RHYME fungicide is a highly systemic triazole. RHYME fungicide’s main target is powdery mildew, while Fracture fungicide’s main targets are powdery mildew and botrytis. In addition, Fracture fungicide offers growers maximum flexibility with a one-day pre-harvest interval and a four-hour re-entry interval.” RHYME and Fracture fungicides should be used as parts of a complete spray program for disease control and resistance management.
