Jun 21, 2012Spotted Wing Drosophila found in Connecticut.
Spotted Wing Drosophila has been confirmed in Connecticut this week. No confirmed cases yet in Mass., but they are likely to show up soon.
Set out traps as soon as possible, if you haven’t already done so. Click here for information on trap construction and deployment.
For identification help, click here for the most up to date fact sheet on SWD identification.
Effective control depends on timely action, sanitation (harvest regularly all ripe fruit and remove overripe fruit from the field), and rotation of spray materials to avoid the development of resistance to one class of materials (this is true for both organic and conventional materials).

Please email the UMass Fruit Team if you think you may have found SWD. Photos are welcome.
