Wind storm came at bad time for Door County apple growers

Clean-up continues in Door County in the wake of a powerful windstorm that swept through the area late last week.

The damage couldn’t have come at a worse time for the county’s apple growers. For Lee Petrina at Zeke’s Farm, the sight of a small apple tree snapped at its base is cause for big heartache.

"We took care of them for seven years. Pruned them, fertilized, sprayed," Petrina said. "If you’re a fruit grower, a tree is like a child. You see a tree down, you kind of feel it." WBAY
