California winegrape grower Geringer dies

The California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) released the following statement regarding the death of Richard Geringer.

“We are saddened to learn that former CAWG board member Richard Geringer passed away on March 12 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A lifelong farmer who grew raisins and winegrapes, Geringer had a strong passion for viticulture and agriculture in Fresno. In addition to serving on the CAWG board, his extensive leadership contributions included Fresno County Farm Bureau president. A celebration of life service will be held at Biola Congregational Church (4717 Fifth St., Biola, California) on March 23 at 11 a.m.

Richard Geringer passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Richard was born on March 24, 1942, in Fresno, CA, and married Dorothy on May 3, 1969. He grew up in Fresno and attended both Central High School, and California State University, Fresno.

Richard also served in the California Army National Guard. A lifelong farmer, growing raisins and winegrapes, Richard had a strong passion for viticulture and agriculture in Fresno. His extensive leadership contributions to the agricultural community included serving as Fresno County Farm Bureau President, on the board of directors for the California Association of Winegrape Growers and an active member of Allied Grape Growers.

In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, wine tasting, boating, and driving his 1942 Lincoln Continental. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; and two adult children, Troy and Tricia.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Biola Congregational Church, located at 4717 Fifth Street, Biola, CA 93606, on Friday, March 23, 2018, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send your remembrances to support Biola Congregational Church; or Hinds Hospice, 2490 W.
