Dec. 1 apple holdings down from 2014

According to the U.S. Apple Association, fresh apple holdings on Dec. 1, 2015, totaled 106.3 million bushels, 18 percent below the record inventories reported for Dec. 1 of 2014, but 2 percent above the five-year average for that date.

Processing holdings totaled 41.9 million bushels, 10.5 percent below Dec. 1, 2014, but 4.7 percent above the five-year average for that date.

The total number of apples in storage on Dec. 1, 2015, was 148.2 million bushels, 16 percent below last December’s record total of 176.7 million bushels.
