EPA grants registration to new biofungicide

Amara’s effectiveness stems from its high concentration of environmentally stable active ingredients, which produce antimicrobial components that degrade fungal pathogen cells and promote systemic plant resistance. This results in better disease control and reduced yield loss.

“The EPA approval of Amara biofungicide marks a major step for BioConsortia in using natural biologicals to fight plant diseases,” said Marcus Meadows-Smith, chief executive officer at BioConsortia. “Amara’s patented strain was discovered using our AMS biologicals discovery platform, which has led to a diverse pipeline of products for disease, insect, and nematode control, as well as biostimulants and biofertilizers.”
Amara will be marketed and sold by Nichino America, Inc., with launch plans underway for the 2025 growing season. The product will provide both conventional and organic growers an effective solution for managing diseases while reducing chemical residues in crops.
