Focus put on nutrient use efficiency by Verdesian Life Sciences

Cary, North Carolina-based Verdesian Life Sciences has reformulated its mission, positioning statement and approach in order to create a more mission-driven organization committed to providing sustainable nutrient use efficiency (NUE) solutions for farmers and growers.

The company’s new mission statement focuses on the grower customer and is supported by Verdesian’s core values that guide the behavior of all Verdesian team members.

Verdesian’s new mission statement reads:

At Verdesian Life Sciences, we enable a sustainable future for farmers through nutrient use efficiency.

Verdesian has updated its corporate logo with a tagline to reflect the spirit and purpose of the mission statement change and renewed focus on nutrient use efficiency solutions for farmers.

“Growers are deeply committed to greater sustainable efficiency and less waste in nutrient use, while growing healthier, more robust crops.” said Paul Beck, VP of Global Marketing at Verdesian. “Our new mission statement reflects Verdesian’s continued commitment to the development of nutrient use efficiency technologies to help solve these challenges.”

Throughout 2017 and 2018, Verdesian has stepped up recruitment of top scientific, sales and marketing talent committed to sustainable nutrient use efficiency, increasing its technical sales and development department by 15 percent to provide greater access to Verdesian technologies and science.

Kuide Qin Ph.D., Chief Science Officer for Verdesian, was recently brought aboard to lead nutrient use efficiency technology R&D. Kuide is a veteran scientist working with sustainable agriculture and modern farming formerly with Dow AgroSciences and Bayer Crop Science.

Dr. Qin’s experience over a decade working closely with farmers worldwide has focused on efficient use of agriculture inputs, with an aim to reduce the environmental impact of agricultural chemicals while increasing production to meet the demand of a growing population and declining agricultural land availability.

Verdesian has launched a number of new nutrient use efficiency technologies over the past year for both row crop and specialty crop growers along with a number of planned launches in 2018 and 2019.

  • Take Off LS – A nitrogen utilization and carbon assimilation technology that optimizes efficient plant nutrient acquisition, allowing for more efficient plant development, and better crop quality and yield potential
  • Avail HV -– A phosphorus efficiency technology for high volume fertilizer applications designed to provide better nutrient access during early plant development, early season plant performance and crop quality potential
  • MicroSync – A micronutrient and sulfur technology designed to improve micronutrient efficiency and soil fertility programs in row crops and vegetables
  • FlexConnect -– An inoculant applicator technology designed to reduce waste, reduce cross contamination and improve efficiency when mixing inoculant products

Verdesian is further demonstrating its commitment to nutrient use efficiency farming practices with the launch of the Verdesian Performance Guarantee in 2017, which provides growers and retailers using Avail Phosphorus Fertilizer Enhancer and/or NutriSphere-N Nitrogen Fertilizer Manager technologies a simple guarantee that if they don’t see a yield performance increase enough to cover the cost of those technologies, Verdesian will cover the cost.

Verdesian’s growing portfolio includes over 300 patent proprietary technologies developed in partnership with leading global research institutions and universities, including the United States Department of Agriculture, Los Alamos National Laboratory, University of California Riverside, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Verdesian is a 4R Nutrient Stewardship Partner with The Fertilizer Institute leading the effort to improve crop performance and soil health and cleaner air and water by applying the 4R principles: Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, and Right Place for fertilizer nutrients. Verdesian is expanding its collaboration work with American Society of Agronomy, The Soil Science Society of America, and other leading global agricultural institutions to drive greater agricultural efficiency production.
