Fresh and processing apple holdings down from 2010

U.S. fresh-market apple holdings of 78.5 million bushels on January 1, 2011, reflect a four-percent decrease compared to January 2010 holdings of 81.6 million bushels, and were one percent less than the five-year average of 79.3 million bushels on Jan. 1.

Total processing apple holdings as of January 1, 2011, were 31.8 million bushels, 10-percent below those on January 2010 and 16-percent below the five-year average for that date.
