FruitSecurity introduces new black hail net with 25-year lifespan

New from FruitSecurity is the black hail net with a high UV resistance and a lifespan of 25 years. The net prevents sunburn and can be used to slow down the ripening of fruit by a few days.

Longer lifespan results in savings of $20,000 to $25,000 per hectare

Hail nets protect fruit against wind, hail, heavy driving rain, insects and bird damage. The acreage of hail nets in the Netherlands increases every year. A new product from Fruit Security is the black hail net. It differs from the usual crystal hail net not only in color, but especially in chemical composition.

In the Netherlands, the average UV radiation level is 80 KLY. Carbon, as a UV stabilizer, slows down the aging process of hail nets up to 1400 KLY. Ordinary crystal hail nets have a lifespan of 10 years. The new chemical composition of the black hail net (carbon is added) increases the lifespan to as much as 25 years. This results in savings of € 20,000 to € 25,000 per hectare.

Prevent sunburn and spread fruit harvest with black hail nets

Black hail nets have only just been introduced in countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the UK. In Austria and Italy, black hail nets have been used for some time now. Experience shows that black hail nets let through less light. Therefore, black hail nets better prevent sunburn, especially on fruit such as apples, pears and apricots.

Experience shows that fruit colors more uniformly, which results in a more homogeneous fruit quality. With the aid of black hail nets, the ripening of fruit can be extended by an average of four days. Therefore fruit growers can use black hail nets to slightly delay the fruit harvest and spread the use of harvesting personnel over different acreages. Black hail nets are less noticeable in the landscape. That too is an advantage.

FruitSecurity Holland delivers and builds its hail nets and foil-canopies throughout Europe, Asia, America and Africa. It advises, develops, manufactures and builds all its hail net systems itself. The mesh size of the black hail net is 2.8 mm x 8.7 mm. It has a weight of 46-50 grams per m2 and can be supplied in any desired width and length. FruitSecurity also supplies hail nets in the colors crystal and grey. FruitSecurity expects new black and gray hail nets to become the standard in the feature because of the great benefits.
