Heat wave has apple growers feeling rotten

Record heat marching across the Midwest may bite the 2012 fruit crop.

The mercury hit 70 again on Monday at Small’s Fruit Farm in Mondamin. It had apple growers Jim and Renee Small feeling rotten.

"This is the earliest our apples have been out," said Jim Small. "It’s historic."

And cause for concern. If a killing freeze occurs now, kiss a good portion of your Mondamin apples goodbye. Sioux City Journal
