Majority share of Torrent Engineering bought by Valmont

Valmont Industries, a provider of engineered products and services for infrastructure development and mechanized irrigation equipment and services for agriculture, has acquired a majority interest in Indiana-based Torrent Engineering & Equipment (www.torrentee.com).

Founded in 2001, Torrent designs and delivers high-pressure water and compressed air process systems around the world. Their new 25,000-square-foot facility in Warsaw, Indiana, allows for turn-key fabrication and efficient on-site deployments. Torrent founders Joe Cousins and Mark Meadows will continue to lead Torrent as co-presidents.

“Irrigation systems are becoming increasingly complex, and we look forward to being part of those solutions,” said Meadows.

Torrent’s design and engineering experience includes large, complex pumping systems, and they serve the snow making, irrigation, municipal and mining sectors. Some of their recent high-profile projects have included deploying artificial snow for the last three Winter Olympics, including the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and for world-renowned ski resorts.

“The ability to join the world leader in irrigation is a great opportunity for our company,” said Cousins.

“Torrent’s forward-thinking, responsible philosophy aligns with Valmont’s own culture and values,” said Len Adams, president of Valley Irrigation. “We share a commitment to delivering excellent results worldwide.”

Valley Irrigation founded the center pivot irrigation industry in 1954.

With historical sales of more than 200,000 center pivots and linears, Valmont-built equipment annually irrigates approximately 25 million acres (10 million hectares) around the world.
