Michigan Pomesters plan RidgeFest in August with proper safety measures

The Michigan Pomesters released on June 15 the following update regarding its plans for the ninth annual RidgeFest grower tour.

“Dear Members & Sponsors,

I hope this finds you well. Agriculture has always been an essential industry.  However, during these unprecedented times we discover just how essential we all are to the world and the people in it. As we all try to acclimate to this new environment, we feel it’s as important as ever to continue to grow and learn best practices in order to continue feeding the world.

On Aug. 6, 2020, the Michigan Pomesters will be hosting the ninth annual RidgeFest grower tour.  The 2020 tour will be held on the North Ridge, details to follow. This event has been coordinated in order to encourage education and networking within the fruit tree industry, which we felt was needed more this year than in years past. Your support of this event has enabled us to empower agricultural growth within the community and to make a greater impact on our industry.

We’ve considered many aspects while making this decision.  Social Distancing.  Travel requirements. Government restrictions, including the number of people allowed to gather. If you are comfortable, we welcome you to join us.

Due to some of these restrictions, we must legally ask you to practice several safety precautions. This includes:  social distancing – keeping six feet apart; when closer than six feet masks must be worn; and securing your own transportation.  Wagons and buses are not viable options so we will need to form a convoy.  We know you’ll miss the hot and dusty wagon ride…

We understand that these are challenging times for everyone.  Each of us is affected in a different way and we are all working to move forward.  As Pomesters we are trying to lead the industry forward through these challenges.  We appreciate your continued support which allows us to promote and hold this event, at a time when it is more important than ever to join together.

In addition to this event, proceeds are contributed to scholarships enabling young growers to attend the International Fruit Tree Association’s Annual Meeting. This event takes place annually in February and rotates to all major apple producing areas in the world.

Thank you for your contributions to this industry we are all so proud to be a part of, and we appreciate your consideration of financial support to the upcoming event. To secure a sponsorship for your organization, please fill out the attached form and email it to [email protected]. Sponsorships need to be procured by July 10, 2020.  If you have any questions concerning the event sponsorship, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or by phone at 616-293-5049.

On behalf of all Michigan Pomester Officers and Board Members, thank you.
