New Delegate and Entrust labels allow for one-day PHI in bushberry crops

Dow AgroSciences has released new labels for their spinosyn insecticides Delegate and Entrust used in the bushberry crop group. These labels increase growers’ flexibility when they use Delegate and Entrust for managing spotted wing Drosophilaand other insect pests. The bushberry group includes blueberries, an important Michigan fruit crop.

New Delegate label

The first is a 24c Special Local Needs Label for Delegate available for Michigan producers of bushberries (except lingonberries), including highbush and lowbush blueberries. This label allows for Delegate to be applied to the listed crops with a one-day pre-harvest interval (PHI) instead of the previous three-day waiting period. This 24c label is valid until late 2022.

Michigan State University Extension recommends using the 6-ounce rate to control spotted wing Drosophila. There is a 4-6 ounce rate range for different pests, but we recommend the 6 ounce Delegate rate for spotted wing Drosophila. Delegate has a 17.9-ounce seasonal limit per acre, with no more than three applications per season.

There is a six-day waiting period between applications. Growers need to have the 24c label in their possession to use it with a less than three-day PHI.

Due to resistance concerns, only two successive applications of Delegate are allowed. Delegate contains spinosyn, and growers must rotate to a different chemical class for the next application.

New Entrust label

The second label is a Supplemental Label for Entrust SC. Entrust is also labeled with a one-day PHI instead of the previous three-day restriction. This is a full Section 3 federal label for Entrust, which is primarily used in organic production of the labeled crops. This new label is valid until 2020.

We recommend using Entrust SC at the 6-ounce rate to manage spotted wing Drosophila. There is also a six-day waiting period between successive applications of Entrust and a 29-ounce seasonal limit.

Due to resistance concerns, only two successive applications of Entrust are allowed. Entrust contains spinosyn, and growers must rotate to a different chemical class for the next application.
