SWMREC to host 27th annual Viticulture Field Day

Michigan State University will host the 27th annual Viticulture Field Day at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center (SWMREC) on Wednesday, July 27, beginning at 9 a.m.

Grape growers and vineyard employees both new and experienced, winemakers, agribusiness professionals, and anyone else with an interest in viticulture, are invited to attend.

The event will include an outdoor trade show, equipment demonstrations, and bus tours of the research farm beginning at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The bus tours will include workshops by Michigan State University experts and others on matters related to grape production in our region. Discussion and demonstration subjects during workshops include: irrigation, soil profiles, leaf removal, alternative disease control, and performance of novel wine grape varieties in the field.

The educational program will be followed by a showcase of wine from the Lake Michigan Shore American Viticulture Area. All attendees of age are invited to stay for the wine showcase at 4:45 p.m. and steak cookout at 5:15 p.m. Note that identifications will be checked for entrance into the wine showcase.

The registration fee is $45.00 per person. Early bird registration fee (postmarked by Friday, July 15) is $35.00 per person. Fee includes lunch, wine at the showcase, and steak cookout. Five (5) Restricted Use Pesticide credits have been requested for this meeting.
