Total number of fresh apples in storage on Feb. 1 were 8.2% less than year ago

The U.S. Apple Association has released its February 2021 edition of Market News. This is the fourth report on the 2020 apple crop.

According to the survey, this year’s fresh apple holdings on Feb.1, 2021, totaled 78.2 million bushels, 11.1% less than the inventories reported for Feb. 1 of last year.

Processing holdings totaled 34.5 million bushels, 1.0% less than last year on February 1. The total number of apples in storage on Feb. 1, 2021, was 112.7 million bushels, 8.2% less than last February’s total of 122.8 million bushels and 2.8%  below the 5-year average for that date.

This report captures 97% of the national storage capacity, according to Christopher Gerlach, director, industry analytics for USApple.
