TV show debuting Thursday to feature Alaskan fruit grower

An Alaskan fruit farm will be featured on an eight-part new television series that debuts 10 p.m. Thursday, April 4 on the History channel.

The series, called The American Farm, promises “an authentic look at the hardship, dedication, and personal triumphs of America’s farmers,” from the creators of “Deadliest Catch” and “Storage Wars.”

“Shot on location across the country, ‘The American Farm’ is an authentic portrait of the fight to go from seed to stalk, and from farm to fork,” according to the show’s website. “The History series presents an up-close look at one full year of family farming, told through an unprecedented year on the ground, capturing breathtaking visuals, private moments and personal interviews.”

While most of the five farmers featured in the series are primarily involved in grain, cattle and dairy operations, Meyers Farm in Bethel, Alaska grows fruit and vegetables. Tim and Lisa Meyers and their four daughters farm a variety of crops on 8-9 acres.

The family has established a fruit and vegetable farm near Bethel growing strawberries, raspberries, zucchini, cucumbers, turnips, carrots, tomatoes, radishes, potatoes, cauliflower and cabbage. Their produce is sold through a subscription box system, what some growers often call a community supported agriculture system or CSA.

Fruit Growers News interviewed the Meyers family earlier this week. Stay tuned for a full-length article with photos.
