USDA taking nominations for fruit advisory committee

USDA is taking nominations for qualified fruit and vegetable industry members to fill three vacancies on the Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee.

USDA is set to renew the committee’s charter for two years as required by the Federal Advisory Committee Act. The current charter expires on March 26, 2020.

The Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee (FVIAC) provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture on issues of importance to the produce industry, according to an email from the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council. Qualified candidates may nominate themselves, or you can nominate another candidate who’s interested, qualified and agrees to the nomination.

USDAlogoIndividuals selected would serve two-year terms from March 27, 2020, to March 26, 2022. Additionally, USDA is asking for nominations to develop a pool of candidates to fill future unexpected vacancies should they occur. The Secretary of Agriculture appoints members from the list of nominees.

Nomination packages, including a cover letter to the secretary, the nominee’s typed resume or curriculum vitae and a completed USDA Advisory Committee Membership Background Information Form AD–755 must be postmarked on or before November 21, 2019.

For more information, please see this fact sheet and read the Federal Register notice for nomination package requirements at federalregister.gov/d/2019-22923.
