Canadian apple groups strengthen collaboration under Apples Canada
The group also announced the 2026 apple crop is estimated at 18.9 million bushels.
Apple growers from across five Canadian provinces are uniting under a new name, Apples Canada / Pommes Canada, according to a press release from the advocacy organization.
Apples Canada will operate in partnership with and under Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC), providing a platform for provincial apple organizations to collaborate on industry issues. Areas of focus include production, sustainability, market development, research, promotion and public policy.
The provincial organizations also recently finalized the 2026 Canadian Apple Crop Estimate.
Canada’s 2026 apple crop is estimated at approximately 18.9 million bushels, slightly below last year’s production but in line with historical production trends. Growing conditions and expected production vary by region.
Gala, Honeycrisp, Ambrosia and McIntosh are currently the four leading apple varieties grown in Canada.
The organizations said the Apples Canada structure will support coordination across the apple supply chain, including growers, packers, processors and retailers, as well as engagement with the Canadian government on issues affecting apple production and trade.
The group will focus on maintaining a viable Canadian apple sector and consumer access to Canadian-grown apples.
