Colorado sets bilingual Produce Safety Rule training

The Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (CFVGA), Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, and the Colorado Department of Agriculture will host an all-day Produce Safety Rule training, Jan. 25 at the at the Weld County Extension Office, 525 N  15th Ave., Greeley, Colo. Completion of this Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) training will enable growers to comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The training offers for no additional charge simultaneous translation into Spanish.

During the full day training, which runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., participants will learn about produce safety, FSMA, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and natural resources and food safety.  Fruit and vegetable growers and anyone else interested in these topics is invited to attend. Those successfully completing the course will be eligible to receive a certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials that verifies course completion.

“This training is conveniently scheduled to follow the Greeley Farm Show to accommodate those traveling long distances,” said Martha Sullins, Colorado State University Extension, who is coordinating the CFVGA training. “The course is offered for a very reasonable price of $50. We hope that providing Spanish language materials and course translation will encourage a greater number of farm managers and staff to attend a Produce Safety Rule training.”

The Colorado fruit and vegetable growing sector contributes nearly $300 million to Colorado at the farm gate and is multiplied as it goes through the distribution chain.
