Crop protection manufacturer Orcal grows with addition of industry specialists

Junction City, Oregon-based Orcal Inc. is welcoming industry specialists and restructuring its management team to meet customer demand.

Agriculture always has been and remains essential, and that is apparent at Orcal, an agricultural, consumer and toll manufacturing company that specializes in crop protection products.

According to a news release Orcal has experienced tremendous growth throughout its history, and most recently this growth attracted some superior talent and resulted in the promotion of Tom Peterson from General Manager to Vice President of Operations. Tom has been an integral part of the Orcal team for over thirteen years. He grew up on a farm in the Willamette Valley, received his degree from the University of Oregon and has worked in the crop protection industry for 22 years.

Our growth can be attributed to excellence in research and development, sustainable and ethical products and production methods, and strong customer relationships,” Peterson said. “To ensure that this growth and our relationships stay at a superior level, Orcal is restructuring its management team.  This will allow us to better focus on production efficiencies to satisfy customer needs, continued growth in our commercial business sector, and the key to our success, our people.  I’m very excited for this new challenge and the opportunities that it provides.”

Additionally, Orcal welcomes to the team Tim Wasko after a 23-year career at Simplot Grower Solutions. Wasko will serve as the vice president of sales, marketing and business development. He will focus on continuing to service and support the growth of Orcal through expanded distribution and representation, exploring new markets and future product development. Wasko grew up in the Willamette Valley, earned his degree from western Oregon University and has built strong relationships throughout his career working all over the Pacific Northwest and in various national roles.

“I am very excited to be joining the Orcal family.  Founders Steve Horn and George Baker have built a legacy, rooted in their relationships and devotion to their customers and employees,” Wasko said. “To be able to help continue to lead ORCAL with their guidance is a tremendous opportunity and I cannot wait to get started. Tom Peterson and I have known each other for almost twenty years and our friendship, trust and experiences will complement each other extremely well.  At the end of the day, it is all about the customers, the employees and continuing to grow based on the foundation that is ORCAL.  There are big things happening and this really is an exciting time for us as a company.”

To further strengthen this ag manufacturing enterprise, Brooke Baker will be rejoining Orcal as manager of regulations and R&D. Baker worked for Orcal  from 2014 to 2019 in both the regulatory and quality control departments.

“Brooke has a vast understanding of our products and the regulatory process.,” said Orcal co-founder Steve Horn. “We are very excited to have Brooke back. One of her key responsibilities is to be the conduit between the field and product and label development.  Focusing our efforts on both departments to fulfill the needs of the grower is key to our continued success.”

Orcal also also welcomed Roger Haffner as territory sales manager for Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Haffner’s key responsibilities will be to steward and expand the Orcal product line through its distribution partners. Haffner brings over 40 years of experience in the ag supply business as an agronomist and sales Manager in the Willamette Valley.
