Feb 7, 2020Deadline to apply for Washington state scholarships is March 1
The Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) will award over $1 million in new and renewing scholarships to college students this spring. The deadline for new applicants to submit complete scholarship applications to WAEF is March 1, 2020. WAEF scholarship applications are accessed through the foundation’s website, www.waef.org, under the “scholarships” tab.
Qualified applicants for WAEF scholarships have a tie to Washington’s tree fruit industry, either having been raised in a family whose primary source of income is derived from the tree fruit industry or who are pursuing a college degree with plans to work in Washington’s tree fruit industry. Primarily, awards are granted to students residing in the fruit growing regions of central and eastern Washington. Students receiving new awards from WAEF are in their final year of high school, enrolled currently in college or entering college as an adult. For a complete list of scholarships and qualifications, please visit www.waef.org/scholarships and view “Award Descriptions.”
Scholarships awarded through WAEF may be used by students at accredited trade/technical schools, two-year and four-year public and private colleges and universities.
Two separate applications are available to college-bound and college enrolled applicants. Applicants pursuing a technical/vocational education will utilize the WAEF Vocational/Technical Scholarship Application. A list of qualified vocational/technical programs are listed in the application description. Students pursuing two- and four-year degrees will utilize the WAEF Universal Scholarship Application. Both applications are available at www.waef.org/scholarships.
All applications must be completed and submitted online. Printed forms are not available.
Students are encouraged to contact the WAEF office with questions about qualifications or for application assistance. WAEF staff is reached at (509) 663-7713. Additionally, a list of scholarship tips can be found on the WAEF webpage under the scholarships tab.
WAEF expects to extend scholarship assistance to approximately 350 new & renewing students for the 2020-21 school year.
In 2019, WAEF awarded $1.1 million in scholarships. The foundation currently assists 330 college-enrolled students.
