Florida convention registration to close early

The Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association is closing registration to its annual conference early because of a high number of people who have registered.

The registration closes at 11:59 p.m. Eastern, Aug. 23. Registration fees include admission to all functions and issues forums, except a fishing excursion and a golf tournament. The fishing event is full.

The block of rooms at Ritz-Carlton Hotel reserved by the FFVA has sold out. FFVA has reserved an overflow at the Residence Inn by Marriott Amelia Island. Contact Martha Tucker at the FFVA for assistance in booking a room at the Residence Inn.

Speakers and topics scheduled for the annual convention include:

  • Haven Baker, founder and chief business officer of Pairwise, food start-up leading the way to wellness by combining gene-editing capabilities, deep crop science expertise and cutting-edge data techniques to cultivate fruits and vegetables.
  • Mark Nutsch, a U.S. Army Green Beret commander, who will share the story of helping lead a heroic 12-man team on a covert mission to Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks; the major motion picture, “12 Strong,” is based on the mission.
  • Nicole Bettinger Zeidler, of The Family Business Consulting Group, will dive into family business dynamics, communication and conflict resolution tools and developing leadership in the next generation.

The FFVA convention is Sept. 12-14
