2 minute read

Flamm Orchards, located in Cobden, Illinois, is owned and operated by the Flamm family with Bill Flamm from the fourth generation of family members represented in the day to day farm operation and management. The fifth- generation of the family Larry, Alan, Jeff, Mike, and Karen, assist the other managers by overseeing the operational aspects of the farm as well as product sales and distribution.

The Flamm family has also been proud to see several members of the sixth generation recently become involved with the family business as well. The Flamm Orchards cover over 2,000 acres of the Illinois countryside and produce several varieties of apples and peaches.

Their season begins in May with strawberries, fresh vegetables in spring and summer, peaches from July through September and apples from August through October. The farm primarily operates as a wholesale operation with a large scale packing house featuring state of the art equipment. In addition to their orchard fruit selection, the farm also produces their own strawberry and peach jams, jellies, a “from scratch” bakery, and a roadside market featuring fresh vegetables when in season. This farm is truly a “family farm” that closely manages all production and sales to offer the retailer only the best locally grown selections” and has been providing quality produce to Midwest Retailers for over 130 years.

The Flamm family will host this year’s Summer Hort Day and will tour and share information about their orchards, packing house, and retail market, while University of Illinois Extension specialists and educators will cover a range of topics regarding specialty crops. The day will also include optional side tours and a session for farm marketers. Please join us for a day of educational speakers, delicious food, a chance to meet new vendors, and of course the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and network with new ones.

This event is sponsored by the Illinois State Horticultural Society, University of Illinois, and the Illinois Specialty Growers Association. Advance registration is $27 and includes lunch.
