Expect to see some changes at the Fulton Street Farmers Market when it opens next spring. Big changes.

A ceremonial ground-breaking took place Wednesday morning on project to expand and upgrade to the city’s oldest and most popular open-air market, which is nearing the end of a capital campaign to pay for improvements to infrastructure, traffic flow and vendor space.

More than $2 million has been raised so far to construct covered open-air sheds, re-grade and re-pave the parking lot, widen traffic lanes, and build a 2,000-square-foot building for year-round shopping, campaign managers announced. The Grand Rapids Press
