Michigan ag department head switching role

Gov. Rick Snyder looked within his own cabinet to fill an upcoming vacancy at the helm of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The governor on Monday, June, 25, appointed Keith Creagh – a veteran of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development who has led it since January 2011 – to run the DNR.

Creagh will be replaced by Jamie Clover Adams, policy and legislative affairs director at the Department of Environmental Quality.

Snyder last week tapped DNR Director Rodney Stokes to become a special adviser on helping to make cities more vibrant. He said in a statement that Creagh was a “natural choice”to lead the DNR.

Clover Adams, he said, will be an excellent director and ensure that the food and agriculture industry “play a prominent role in our state’s economic recovery.”

Before rejoining the agriculture department, Creagh was director of industry affairs for food safety company Neogen Corp., which is headquartered in Lansing. Previously, he spent 30 years in the agriculture department.

Clover Adams joined the DEQ in 2011. She previously was deputy chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, and director of the Senate Majority Policy Office.

Both appointments are effective July 9. MLive
