Michigan has new Pesticide and Plant Pest Management Division director

Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Gary McDowell has selected Michael Philip as the new Pesticide and Plant Pest Management Division Director effective Oct. 7

“Mike has been a key member of the MDARD team for years,” said McDowell. “His drive, energy and dedication will help in moving the division forward as we serve Michigan’s agriculture community.”

The Pesticide and Plant Pest Management Division is responsible for the implementation of programs and enforcement of laws concerning agricultural products, export commodities, pesticide sale and use, pest management and groundwater protection.

Philip has been with MDARD for 17 years working within the department’s invasive species and plant regulatory programs.

Philip received his Bachelor of Science in entomology from Michigan State University (1999) and his Master of Science in entomology from North Carolina State University (2001). He resides in East Lansing with wife Elizabeth and three children.
