Michigan orchardist Philip Succop dies at age 71

Philip Succop, 71, of Sparta, Michigan, died Dec. 22.

According to his obituary, Phil went to be with his beloved daughter, Kristen, in heaven. Phil was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

He dedicated his entire life to working diligently on the family orchard, being honored for outstanding leadership by the Michigan Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Association (MACMA).

He spent six years serving his country in the Michigan National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying, and sports shooting especially with his good friends, Bill Fish, Bob Bromley, Bill Goodfellow and many other close friends and colleagues. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, Taylor, Evan and Reid.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Doris Succop, and his in-laws, Robert and Dorothy Hessler.

Philip is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen; daughter, Jenny (Jason) Labaumbard; brother, Jeff (Dawn) Succop; sister, Penny Porter; and three grandchildren.
