Edward Carroll Sisler, 86, died February 12, 2016.
A native of Maryland, Edward lived in Raleigh for many years. He received his B.S and M.Sc from The University of Maryland and his PhD in Plant Physiology from North Carolina State University. Sisler was a biochemistry professor and researcher at North Carolina State University for many years.
In 1996, Sisler’s research resulted in the discovery of I-MCP, and he was awarded his first of many patents. This discovery of I-MCP revolutionized the handling of agricultural and horticultural commodities bringing Sisler and North Carolina State University world renowned recognition. Throughout the scientific world he is known as “The Father of I-MCP.” Along with earning many patents, Sisler contributed to numerous scientific publications, all the while sharing knowledge with scientists worldwide.
Sisler was the seventh child of Daniel and Ida Chidester Sisler formally of Friendsville, Maryland.
Edward is survived by a brother, four sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held in Maryland at a later date.
