TRECO celebrates 80 years as a family business

Founded as Knolview Nursery in 1941 by Bernard Smith, three generations of the Smith family have owned and operated TRECO rootstock and tree business in Woodburn, Oregon.

In 2021, the family business celebrates 80 years of combined innovation and excellence in the rootstock and nursery industry.

Current directors Brent Smith and Jeff Smith have continued to expand the business offerings with hazelnut trees and softwood cuttings as well as providing nurseries and orchardists worldwide with the finest dwarf, semi-dwarf rootstocks available commercially.

The Smith family, working closely with Oregon State University and Washington State University was an early innovator in the introduction of new dwarfing rootstocks in the Willamette Valley in Oregon and began the propagation of new clonal rootstocks that thrive in agricultural regions around the globe.

TRECO (Oregon Rootstock and Tree Co.) continues to be an industry leader in the design and customization of nursery and field equipment specialized to insure viability and efficiency. The Smith family believe that the future of the orchard industry lies in the continuing search for newer and better rootstocks.
