Apple holdings reportedly up 16 percent over 2017

It its April, 2018 edition of Market News, the U.S. Apple Association issued its first report on the 2017 apple crop.

According to the survey report released by Mark W. Seetin, director of regulatory and industry affairs for USApple, this year’s fresh apple holdings on April 1, 2018, totaled 61.3 million bushels, 16 percent more than the inventories reported for April 1 of last year. 

Processing holdings totaled  26.1 million bushels, 20 percent more than last year on April 1. The total number of apples in storage on April 1, 2018, was 87.4 million bushels, 17 percent more than last April’s total of 74.8 million bushels and 20 percent above the five-year average for that date.
