U.S. apple holdings up from last year

Fresh apple holdings on March 1, 2015, totaled 79.1 million bushels, a 28 percent increase from the same time last year (61.9 million bushels) and 37 percent above the five-year average (57.9 million bushels), according to the U.S. Apple Association.

Processing holdings totaled 29.6 million bushels, 15 percent above 2014 and 22 percent above the five-year average.

The total number of apples in storage on March 1 was 108.8 million bushels, 24 percent above last year, according to the association.
