Sep 14, 2024Bayer launches Culinary Council to shape future fruit and vegetable breeding
Bayer Vegetable Seeds has launched a Culinary Council aimed at fostering collaboration between chefs and foodservice experts to influence future fruit and vegetable breeding.
The council’s first event, held in San Diego on Aug. 22, gathered industry professionals to explore Bayer’s vegetable products and discuss trends in the foodservice industry.
The council includes chefs, nutrition experts and innovators who provide insights to help shape Bayer’s seed development. The event featured a market basket competition, where chefs worked with fresh produce and gave feedback to guide future product trends.
Jenny Maloney, director of industry relations for Bayer Vegetable Seeds, emphasized the importance of listening to foodservice needs. “The seeds we provide need to work for both farmers as well as consumers,” she said.
By connecting culinary professionals with Bayer’s research and development team, the company aims to produce high-quality fruits and vegetables that meet market demands for flavor and sustainability. Bayer’s seed brands, including Seminis and De Ruiter, are known for innovative solutions like High Rise broccoli stems, which have gained popularity in specialty markets.
The council’s insights will help guide future seed innovations, benefiting both growers and the broader foodservice industry.
