Energy-saving tips for orchardists developed by Penn State Extension

Penn State Extension, in cooperation with University of Vermont Extension and Rutgers Extension has developed energy-saving resources for Northeast farmers. The information is now available at E-Extension and includes information specific to tree fruit production.

Educational materials at E-Extension include fact sheets, activities, case studies, images, decision support tools such as the as Penn State energy selector, and checklists.

The tree fruit module, developed by Penn State Extension, covers energy use in orchards and opportunities for saving energy during irrigation, refrigeration and field operations.  An Orchard Block Fuel Use Calculator helps producers assess ways to reduce fuel consumption on the farm.
