Fall Creek Farm & Nursery adds Jim Baumgartner

Jim Baumgartner

Jim Baumgartner, an Oregon-based attorney for 32 years, has joined Lowell, Oregon-based Fall Creek Farm & Nursery as general counsel and head of its legal department. In this newly created position, Baumgartner will serve on Fall Creek’s executive team as legal advisor to the company, its board of directors and senior management.

The primary focus of Baumgartner’s legal career has been serving family-owned and closely-held businesses. For more than a decade, while an attorney at Black Helterline, LLP in Portland, Ore., Baumgartner worked closely with Fall Creek as it grew into an international company.

“I’ve long had a passion for working with family-owned business and helping businesses simultaneously expand while also assisting with succession planning between generations,” says Baumgartner. “Given the work I’ve done for Fall Creek and the Brazelton family over this past decade, the opportunity to come in-house and work directly with them was an opportunity I could not pass up. This new chapter in my career offers an exciting opportunity to work with a highly-recognized family business in Oregon.”

Oscar Verges, Fall Creek’s Chief Operations Officer says, “Adding a General Counsel position to Fall Creek’s executive team is a recognition of the strategic importance the company places in the function.  Jim has played an important role in Fall Creek’s expansive business operations and growth, and the company has benefitted from his immense expertise in business law.  His presence in the company and perspective at the executive level will help us shape our future growth.  We look forward to having him as part of our team.”

Baumgartner has earned high accolades for his professional contributions. In 2014, then-Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber appointed him to the State Board of Higher Education and to the Board of Trustees for Western Oregon University. In 2007, Oregon State University recognized Baumgartner with Outstanding Alumni Partner award.  In 1995, the Government of Canada appointed him Honorary Counsel to Canada to assist in advancing relationships between Oregon and Canada.
