Growers and sellers protest broad E.coli warning

Local strawberry growers and sellers are seeing red over what they consider an overreaction to an E.coli outbreak traced to fresh strawberries picked at a farm in Newburg, Ore., last month.

A press release put out this week by the Clark County Health Department advised consumers "with strawberries purchased from farmers’ markets or roadside stands in Southwest Washington or Oregon before Aug. 1 should throw them out. This includes strawberries that have been frozen or made into jam without properly cooking them." The Daily News
