5 takeaways from the June 2026 AppleTracker report
See the top five insights from the June 2026 AppleTracker report impacting U.S. apple growers.
June’s USApple Tracker update shows a bit of a mixed outlook on the current standing of U.S. apple holdings as apple growers tend to a 2026 crop most analysts generally peg as steady compared with last year’s crop as far as total acreage goes.
Overall, the market expects an average-to-potentially-large crop to be pulled out of orchards this summer, with the caveat being that weather patterns need to cooperate to make that projection a reality, obviously.
Here are five takeaways from the data points contained within USApple’s June AppleTracker update:
1. Fresh apple inventories are currently down 8% year-over-year
Considering the segment dominates total supply by nearly a 2:1 ratio, fresh market apple holdings are the belle of the ball when it comes to apple metrics. On June 1, USApple says fresh holdings sat at 36.6 million bushels, which could be a good sign for apple growers: all things being equal, lower fresh inventories could signal stronger late-season pricing due to classic supply-demand push and pull.
2. Processing inventories are up 14% year-over-year and 20% above the five year average
Stored processing apples currently sit at 16.6 million bushels, ahead of last June’s 14.6 million and the five-year historic average of 13.7 million bushels. Higher processing holdings could signal a coming deflation of apple sauce, juice and other value-added products price trends.
3. Honeycrisp still a behemoth
The industries’ biggest brand name continues to consume market share and demand from apple buyers with current holdings at 6.85 million bushels, an over 4 million bushel increase over last year’s data. Honeycrisp movement is also trending up with May 2026 movement at 2.67 million bushels, significantly more than last May’s 1.62 million.
4. Cosmic Crisp stockpile continues its ascension
The current 7.77 million bushels in holding represents a massive volume for this still relatively-young variety, just a little over 1 million off the all-time-record of 8.9 million bushels. The data shows a rapidly expanding variety, especially in apple production pole sitter Washington State. Growers should continue to monitor the variety to see if consumer demand tracks closely with production.
5. Speaking of Washington State, it still dominates domestic apple production
Washington’s 45 million bushels of apples in holding stands at 85% of the current total domestic supply (53 million). Growers across the Midwest and on the East Coast should always keep an eye trained on what’s going on in Washington, as the state continues to heavily influence market dynamics across the U.S.
