Memorial Service Sept. 20 for Art Thompson

A memorial funeral mass will be held Sept. 20 for Arthur H. Thompson, professor emeritus of horticulture at the University of Maryland. He died Aug. 15 at home in Cantonville, Md. He was 90.

His is survived by Isabel, his wife of 63 years, and children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thompson was a national figure in the fruit world, doing some of the earliest work in the 1950s on chemical fruit thinning. He was a researcher with a national reputation and renowned as a teacher, having taught many of the leading figures in horticulture –– growers ands scientists – for three generations.

The memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
