NARBA awards Iowa couple

During its annual meeting in February, the North American Raspberry & Blackberry Association (NARBA) awarded Dean and Judy Henry of Nevada, Iowa, the organization’s 2015 Distinguished Service Award.

Dean and Judy Henry have been growing berries for 40 years, raising raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, currants and gooseberries, as well as tree fruit and pumpkins. Dean Henry served on the board of directors of NARBA from 2006 through 2010, and then on the Research Committee of the North American Bramble Growers Research Foundation from 2010 to 2014. They have also been active in their state grower organizations. Generations of customers have enjoyed their berries, buying them at the farm or at farmers’ markets across the state, or picking their own at the farm, and they have been leaders in their community and the berry industry, according to NARBA.

“The Henrys have had a long-lasting impact on the growing of berries in North America,” said NARBA Executive Director Debby Wechsler. “They have shared their bountiful harvests with generations of customers, taught countless children and young adults about agriculture and berries and encouraged and supported their communities and fellow growers in positive ways.”
