Ohio apple crop better than expected

Ohio’s apple growers worried about heavy spring rain this year have gotten some relief from the weather.

Growers say hot summer temperatures helped sweeten the apples, and cooler fall nights have been good for the fruit’s color.

Miriam Cooper, at Cooper’s Mill, 1414 N. Sandusky Ave., said it was touch and go for a while trying to get apples to make apple butter and jelly.

"There was a shortage in supply and we were getting the apples late," Cooper said. "They are coming in strong now." The Bucyrus Telegraph
